Dystonia
What is dystonia?
Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes your muscles to contract involuntarily. The muscle spasms can range from mild to very severe. The movement can be isolated to one part area of the body (focal dystonia), two adjacent body parts (segmental dystonia), or all parts of the body (general dystonia).
Several area of the body can be affected by dystonia to include the following:
- Neck
- Eyelids
- Jaw/Tongue
- Vocal Cords
- Hands
- Forearm
The contractions of the muscles can also be triggered by stress, fatigue, normal activities, and can worsen over time.
